Media and Film

GCSE Media Studies (Eduqas) offers students the opportunity to explore the dynamic world of media, developing a critical understanding of how media products are created and consumed. Throughout the course, students will engage with a wide range of media forms including film, television, advertising, online platforms, and print media. They will learn to analyse and deconstruct media messages, exploring the ways in which media shapes our perceptions of society and culture. With a focus on both theory and practical skills, students will have the chance to create their own media products, honing their creativity and technical abilities. This engaging and contemporary subject encourages students to think critically, work collaboratively, and develop a deeper understanding of the powerful role media plays in our daily lives.

Students can also study A-Level Film Studies which provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the art and craft of cinema, exploring a range of films from different genres, periods, and cultures. The course covers both the analysis of film texts and the production processes behind them, encouraging students to critically engage with film as a form of visual storytelling. Through studying narrative structures, cinematography, sound, editing, and the social and cultural contexts of films, students will deepen their appreciation of film as an evolving medium. The course also includes opportunities for practical work, enabling students to create their own short films or screenplays. With a strong emphasis on independent thought, research, and creativity, A-Level Film Studies equips students with the skills to analyse, interpret, and respond to the rich world of cinema.

An extra-curricular Film Club takes place every Thursday after school in P202.
