Welcome
It is a privilege to be the Headteacher of The Highfield School and it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our school website.
The Highfield School is an ambitious school where all are encouraged to achieve their full potential. Our vision that ‘we work together to succeed and thrive’ is based on a culture of high expectation, challenge and the support needed, so that by we can all achieve our goals. We have an excellent reputation both academically and pastorally. This reputation is based on outstanding teaching and learning and high standards and expectations. We expect all our students to work very hard but recognise that the very best learning takes place when it is harnessed to interest and enjoyment. Our curriculum is therefore innovative and relevant and whilst there is a great emphasis on English, Maths, Science, Humanities and Languages, this is balanced by a promotion of and dedication to the arts and creativity.
As a learning community, academic achievement is of course incredibly important. Of equal importance is helping our students to develop strong values with a focus on personal development, in order to support our young people in gaining a strong sense of their place in their local, national and global communities. Driving this ethos, are our core values of being ‘Caring, Respectful and Determined.’
Our students are at the heart of everything we do and student leadership is a driving force within the school community and is a further opportunity for our students to acquire the skills and confidence needed to be the leaders of the future, in a diverse and competitive world. Our Head Student Leaders, along with the School Council, work hard with our wider School Parliament, to ensure that student voice is shared and ultimately has an impact on the way our school community operates and what we offer our students.
We are immensely proud of the achievements of all our students and celebrate their successes at every opportunity. These successes are built on a genuine partnership between students, the school, parents and the community. Our school is at the heart of its community, and we work in partnership to provide many exciting opportunities for our staff and students to work with our partner organisations. We are also part of a Teaching Alliance with other schools across North Hertfordshire.
At Highfield, we offer a happy and a positive learning environment where staff and students enjoy working and learning together. We are very proud of the excellent relationships that exist between staff and students- relationships based on respect and consideration for others. We firmly believe that this provides a safe and secure learning environment for all our young people.
Our ethos is of challenge and support, fulfilling potential and taking advantage of the many educational opportunities we provide our students. We have our eye on the future, aiming to be innovative in our approaches, whilst not losing sight of the traditional values that provide the foundation for any successful school.
This website, together with our school prospectus, outlines some of the many aspects of our work. In addition, we would be delighted to answer any questions you may have. Please email (admin@highfield.herts.sch.uk) or telephone (01462 620500) and we look forward to sharing more information with you about the school and its successes.
