Bedrock Learning
Bedrock Vocabulary is a programme for all KS3, KS4 and Year 12 students that helps them learn and embed new vocabulary. It helps them learn the tricky language they might come across in text books, lessons, exams and in real life. By working through the digital lessons on Bedrock, students will learn them all and hundreds more! All the content is based on students’ personal reading age, which means that they really are learning! Each week, students need to achieve 20 points. Students have time to complete Bedrock at home, during tutor time and during some literacy lessons in KS3. Students’ progress and engagement is monitored by English teachers; rewards and interventions are given as required.
DEAR – Drop Everything and Read
In tutor time, students have plenty of time to engage with fiction and non-fiction. KS4 and KS5 students read non-fiction texts from The Day website or any other reputable national newspaper which they find interesting. KS3 students read both non-fiction materials available on The Day website as well as reading fiction books. Students have copies of the books and tutors read to the students out loud to help them develop their reading skills as well as reading for pleasure.
